Global Warming

I aggree with you on Global Warming. Danger from this problem is not eminent and therefor is ignored by our government. I am not one to bash the government. Although it has it's faults it is, in my opinion, the greatest government system ever built. That being said I have a serious problem with it ignoring Global Warming. I do have one theory though. I think that the rise in oil prices is not necessarily a bad thing. The quickest way to get a person's attention is to hit them in their wallet. There has been a new car designed called the "Hybrid." It it uses half the amount of oil that a regular car uses. Ford has followed suit and designed the new Ford Explorer to the hybrid guidlines. Demand will rise for this car and for other more energy efficient cars. There was a car on a morning show a few months ago that was completely electric. It had some kinks to be worked out, but bottom line it's working. I know we have more than just auto polution, but it is a start. I don't mind the high oil prices for this one reason only. I haven't gotten angry about it or not fueled on May 25th so we could hit the oil companies. I'm just sitting back and hoping this will have a side effect that will help solve Global Warming.

Climate Elections 2008

Devoted to making climate the dominant issue in the 2008 elections in the U.S.

The #1 Issue facing Michigan, the U.S., and the World

I believe that Global Warming, and the need to immediately develop energy efficiency and sustainable energy policies to address it, is the most pressing issue facing us at this time.

Global warming is a fact. The details about it are alarming. There is a chance that we can head off the worst consequences if we act now. The window of opportunity is narrow, somewhere between 10 years and the 15 years that Tony Blair refers to.
All citizens need to find out about this, and demand appropriate action on the part of our governments and fellow citizens.
Newspapers, magazines, TV - the Media in general - has given short shrift to this topic. The reasons for that, and the answers to most other questions about this vital topic are given in 2 books:
Boiling Point: How Politicians, Big Oil and Coal, Journalists and Activists Are Fueling the Climate Crisis--And What We Can Do to Avert Disaster” by Ross Gelbspan. At this time a citizen is likely to be misinformed about this urgent issue unless they read a book like, “The Weather Makers : How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth” by Tim Flannery.

Nevada's renewable energy resources

Nevada has far more renewable energy resources than our candidates realize. The candidates also do not know much about the details of geothermal energy, direct solar energy, or wind energy. As a result, they cannot distinguish the value of the suggestions offered by advocates and critics, and cannot avoid being influenced by vested interests.

Nevada could gain an important economic advantage by developing the above energy resources, and by adopting the efficient energy management technologies now available, and which could provide more and better jobs along with a strengthened tax base.

In the News

Deseret Morning News

"...churches and synagogues across the country will preview a new climate-change documentary, "The Great Warming," during the next few weeks before it opens in theaters in early November. Those who see the film can then contact their state's congressional candidates via the Web site, www.questionsforcandidates.org, and create customized questionnaires for candidates whose responses are tracked online."
